Elsner Engineering Works, Inc. exhibited its new AFR-24 high-speed rewinder for aluminum foil and food film. This new model handles 12 inch to 24 inch (30.5 to 61cm) foil widths and allows core OD sizes of 1.25 to 1.75 inches (32.0 to 44.5 mm). Fast operation is a keynote of this new unit with production speeds up to 40 rolls per minute or 2,000 feet (610m) per minute.

The AFR-24 is designed to run all of the industry standard consumer size retail roll lengths and is infinitely adjustable from 16 to 500 feet (5 to 152 inch) lengths. The multi-position turret rewinder is servo controlled and is adjustable while running. An electronic operator interface is used to control length changes as well as machine diagnostics.

Maximum finished roll diameter is 3 inches (76 mm) and the machine will handle up to 30-inch (76.2 cm) mill roll diameter. Automatic tension control monitors the product and interfaces with the variable speed belt driven unwind to maintain proper web tension at all times. A core hopper with automatic feed is standard as is the delivery conveyor.

Various options are available for roll closure to meet customer requirements such as a food film tall finder, which changes the texture of the product at the end of the roll to make it visible to the end user. Aluminum foil tape or label closure is also offered as well as a hot melt glue closure system. The machine on display also featured the optional US-760 unwind stand, which eliminates the need for an overhead hoist.

The AFR-24 high-speed rewinder offers high-speed operation for both food film and aluminum foil in one machine, a productivity advantage as well as an investment advantage for anyone running both products. The high-speed production rates make it ideal for single product use as well.
