Top 100 in the printing industry of Guangdong

Organised by the Printing Association of Guangdong, the first ‘Top 100 printers in the Printing Industry of Guangdong’ was introduced in September 2003. The aim of the activity was to expedite the development of the printing industry in the Pearl River Delta composed of part of the Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macau, and to turn this economic zone into the printing centre of the world.

Looking closely at the Top 100 list, the majority of the names are familiar to Creo. Among the 19 companies ranked in the top ten positions, 80 per cent are computer-to-plate CtP users, and over 50 per cent have adopted Creo CtP solutions. Topping the list are Hung Hing Printing and Leo Paper Group, who are both long-term Creo CtP users.

Other Creo users named on the top ten list include C&C Joint Printing, Dongguan Hucais Printing, Guangzhou Fungchoi Printing, Zhongshan Ran Field Printing, New Island Printing and Toppan Printing (Shenzhen). In China, the adoption of digital systems has exceeded predictions. Creo has successfully become the leader in the commercial CtP market and is geared up for more aggressive expansion. “It’s a true pleasure and great honour to see so many Creo customers being recognised by the Top 100 activity. Through the years, we have seen remarkable growth and advancement in the printing industry in China,” says Andy Fu, sales director of Creo Asia Pacific (Hong Kong and southern China). “Being the leader in the commercial CtP market, Creo is committed to offering the best prepress solutions to our customers.” Creo professionals are devoted to helping customers implement Staccato screening, the centrepiece of the Creo Value in Print initiative, which allows printers produce higher quality products.

The Top 100 celebrates achievements in style A three-day event was held to celebrate the Top 100 in the Printing Industry in Guangdong. The official opening ceremony took place on February 28, 2004, and was followed by a series of seminars. At the Top 100 celebration event, Creo participated in the CtP seminar and shared with delegates the advanced Creo complete solutions. Site visits to printing plants were arranged on the next day. An award night finished off the event on March 1, 2004. To be a qualified candidate for the ‘Top 100 in the Printing Industry in Guangdong’ competition, participants had to fulfil ten criteria set on fixed assets, annual sales figures, annual interest, facilities area, equipment and staff size. Based on the principles of ‘fairness, justice, openness, voluntary enrolment and confidential information’, the judging board screened out 101 finalists.

The Top 100 is not simply a list, but also a representation of 18 billion RMB in annual sales, which accounts for 27 per cent of the total sales in the printing industry in Guangdong. These top 100 companies also account for 12 billion RMB of fixed assets, occupy over 36.4 billion square metres of production area, operate 681 units of four or more colour presses, and employ 88,000 workers in the country.

Among the top 20 companies, four of them account for 15 per cent of the total sales in the industry in Guangdong province. In terms of locality, 29 out of the 100 are located in Shenzhen while 21 have their premises in Guangzhou.
