Gidue expands 2004 exhibition portfolio to Singapore and India

Reflecting its continuing success as a key international press manufacturer, Gidue SpA has chosen to expand its 2004 exhibition portfolio to include Labelexpo Singapore in November and the India Label Show in December. An eight-colour Combat 280 press will be exhibited at Labelexpo Singapore with full UV capability.

Designed for speeds up to 150m/min (500ft/min) the 280mm (11") wide press is destined for a customer in Australia following the show and features the Flower printing head developed by Gidue to facilitate job changes. This development has eliminated the need for pressure adjustments during changeovers through a specially designed locking system. Changing jobs consists of opening the printing head and simply dropping in the new printing and anilox cylinders.

Managing director Federico d’Annunzio comments: “The Combat press is capable of handling a wide range of substrates from paper, fi lms and foils to plastics with carton production also a possibility. It is designed for very fast makeready and the unique design of the Gidue Flower print head and set up procedures mean that it can be up and running with product coming of the press in minutes. Standard settings on the press mean it is very simple to operate and not skill or operator dependent, a very important feature when companies are considering investment in a different printing process.”

The Combat is available with a full range of options for in-line decorating and converting and comes with a two year, renewable warranty. PS labels replace wet glue applications According to recent reports the use of self-adhesive labels in Asia has been growing steadily at 10 per cent or more per annum for over ten years, with projected annual growth in coming years estimated to be as high as 15 per cent – and even higher in certain parts of Asia. Reinforcing this trend, Gidue India has supplied three Combat narrow web UV fl exographic printing presses at locations in Indore and Mumbai, India. These presses were ordered to cater for the growing demand of pressure sensitive labels replacing sheetfed, wet glue label applications. As part of its expansion plans, a second 370mm wide Combat press has been purchased by Pragati Graphics Pvt Ltd. Serving the prime label food and pharmaceutical markets, the company made the purchase as part of the demand to switch from wet glue to pressure sensitive labels.

The seven-colour, full UV press is capable of handling a wide range of substrates from paper to plastics with carton production also a possibility. “The press is capable of very fast makeready and the unique design of the Gidue Flower concept print head and set up procedures mean that we can be up and running with product coming of the press in 15 minutes. Standard settings on the press mean it is very simple to operate and that we are not operator dependent,” said managing director Rajesh Nema, . Planet Labels, a new start-up in the pressure sensitive label segment, has installed a 280mm wide Combat press equipped with seven UV fl exo printing stations, laminating and web cleaner for fi lm labels. The purchase has allowed the company to enter the lubricants and beauty care markets.

The company also appreciates the ergonomics of the Gidue printing heads and overall design features. Director Arun Rawat comments: “Our operator is very happy with the machine for its simplicity and user-friendly operation. Our operator is not a printer and the press is not dependent on this. The simplicity of the printing heads, organised work environment and overall ease of operation means we can even use unskilled machine operators if necessary. We especially like the fact that the press holds tight register even when splicing.” More recently, and of major signifi cance for Gidue, has been the sale of a press at Flexiprint, Sri Lanka, a company specialising in packaging for tea that has recently fi nalised an eight-colour Combat 370.

Gidue manufactures narrow and mid-web printing presses for labels and fl exible packaging from its 5000 square metre facilities near Milan, Italy. Gidue India follows the sales and service needs in the Indian sub-continent. Gidue also has a network of distributors spanning the fi ve continents. With representation in over 30 countries the company is well placed to provide worldwide local sales and service to its customers.
