State-of-the-art equipment for fi lm production

Windm–ller & H–lscher is one of the technological leaders worldwide in the fi eld of machinery and equipment for fl exible packaging. The focus of their presentation at K 2004 in D¸sseldor fand the Lengerich in-house Expo which will be held simultaneous to the D¸sseldorf event, will be on fi lm production, printing and conversion. Both at the K exhibition stand and their new and advanced extrusion and printing technology centre in Lengerich, visitors will have the opportunity to witness the demonstration of the most recent developments.

Three blown fi lm extrusion lines and one cast fi lm line will be shown producing high quality fi lms for demanding applications at maximum output. Three fl exo presses, one gravure press and one fi lm sealing machine will top off the presentation of the company’s wide range of equipment for the fl exible packaging industry.

One of the two machines on show in D¸sseldorf is a Varex 5-layer blown fi lm extrusion line equipped with the new patented Maxicone die which excels with a compact design, extremely short melt fl ow paths and reduced residence times. Combining minimised melt volumes with the elimination of ‘dead zones’ and minimum pressure losses, Maxicone is the optimum tool for superb quality fi lms. To achieve high production outputs, constant and effi cient cooling of the fi lm bubble is an absolute must. The Multicool D double deck air ring is one of the most effective and powerful systems for external bubble cooling presently available in the market place. Variocage, the adjustable fi lm sizing cage gives perfect fi lm bubble support and guidance. An extremely long bubble collapsing section and the resulting constant and highly effi cient cooling are among the advantages offered by the new Multinip oscillating haul-off. Superb quality fi lm rolls are produced on the Filmatic S dual winder. This new W&H winder featuring automatic taper tension and contact pressure control to match Multinip, the new oscillating haul-off with extremely long bubble collapsing section ensures constant and highly effi cient cooling of the fi lm bubble. the increasing diameter of the fi lm roll will be demonstrated in conjunction with the 5-layer Varex. It can be optionally equipped with reverse winding capability by incorporating a vacuum contact cutter drum and/or be extended for center/gap winding. The Varex on display also features the new Procontrol TS operator console which allows the operator to enter all job related data via the touch screen. The Windows-based self-explanatory operator interface is bound to set new standards in terms of operator friendliness. Another technical innovation is the redesigned Windows-based Information System Production (ISP) for easy monitoring and storage of production data. It will be presented by W&H for the fi rst time at the K 2004 show. Another debut: At the K plastics show in D¸sseldorf, W&H will present an eight-colour C.I. fl exo press – the Primafl ex CS. Package printing is gaining in importance also for many fi lm producers, since fi lm production and printing are essential links of the value-added chain. The Primafl ex CS is a C.I. fl exo sleeve press which excels with excellent quality prints, high uptime and an attractive price/performance ratio.
